her movement 'towards her rights and goals'

What is HER Movement? who we are ? what we do?

In Tanzania the rate of students who drops out from school due to unintended pregnancies (teenage pregnancies) has increased from 18% to 21%, (according to UNFPA) this is attributed to the lack of knowledge on sexual and reproductive and rights. Furthermore, the lack of friendly infrastructure and services is another limiting factor that cause teenage pregnancies among young girls. Most of these young girls shy away from accessing the contraceptives in the healthcare centers due to the lack of friendly services and environment thereof. Moreover, cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV) have continued to be adamant in our societies, with increasing rate of sexual abuse such as rape among adolescent girls and their inability to negotiate safe sex, unintended pregnancies continue to be a high risk to their health.

Many organizations have now stood up to fight against sexual abuse to young girls as well as raise awareness on sexual and reproductive health. However there is a need to be more creative and introduce new innovative ideas on how to tackle the increasing rates of teenage pregnancies among adolescent girls and young women in our communities. Moreover there is a need of providing friendly services so that young people can be comfortable when accessing the reproductive health services.

What is Juliana movement (Her movement)

Juliana movement is Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) campaign that is initiated in the memory of the late Juliana, a form 2 student who lost her life due to unsafe abortion from an unintended pregnancy. The death of Juliana raised a lot of questions such what if Juliana had the knowledge on reproductive health or if she didn’t feel shy to access one of the contraceptives maybe her story would have been different.

It was  from there that the campaign to honor Juliana was developed to raise awareness to more adolescent girls on SRHR as well as providing them with options such as  contraceptives which we are packed  in a unique package with Juliana’s name. This campaign is expected to empower more adolescent girls to have knowledge on SRH and the available ways to protect themselves from unintended pregnancies.it aims to break the silence on issues around safe sex and sexual health in general to ensure that these young girls are aware of the available ways to protect themselves.

Activities that are going to be done in the project

·        Providing sexual and reproductive health education

·        Providing awareness on gender based violence

·        Providing services (contraceptives in a friendly way where by any young girl can access)

·        Call center where by young girls can call and ask for more clarifications concerning sexual and reproductive health. We are planning of having a USSD number which will be free of charge for them to call or send message

Campaign goals

-To ensure sure that adolescent girls and young women have knowledge on Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH), Gender Based Violence (GBV) as well as access to youth friendly services and become SRH champions in their communities
